Installing CometChat as a MyBB plugin

Introduction

This guide will help you through the installation process and get CometChat running on your site.

Installation is very straight forward, only taking about 5 minutes from uploading the files to viewing the CometChat bar on your site.

You do not need programming knowledge to install CometChat.

This guide assumes that you have successfully downloaded the latest release of CometChat and have the zip file “unzipped” and ready to go. If not, you can download the package from your client area.

The instructions will term the zip file you downloaded as cometchat_UNZIP_FIRST.zip. Extract this zip to a local folder.

Step 1

Unzip the ‘mybb.zip’ file and merge the extracted ‘inc’ folder with the existing ‘inc’ directory of your site.

Step 2

Log in to MyBB administration panel, go to Home > Plugins.

Step 3

Find ‘CometChat’ under the list of ‘Inactive Plugins’ and click Install & Activate.

Step 4

Go to Configuration > Settings. Find and select ‘CometChat’ under ‘Plugin Settings’.

Select the ‘cometchat.zip’ file provided in the package and click Upload.

Step 6

Once CometChat is installed successfully on your site, the CometChat Administration Panel will be displayed.

Additional settings:

User Group:

You can disable CometChat usage to specific groups by simply entering the user group’s ID in the ‘Hide CometChat from’ field and click Save Settings.

Activate/Deactivate CometChat:

To activate/deactivate CometChat on your site, go to Home > Plugins. Find ‘CometChat’ under ‘Active Plugins/Inactive Plugins’ and click Activate/Deactivate respectively.

Upgrading CometChat

To upgrade CometChat to its latest version on your site, download CometChat package from ‘https://my.cometchat.com/’. Unzip the cometchat_UNZIP_FIRST.zip and upload the new ‘cometchat.zip’ and click Upgrade.

Note : If you get file permission issue then please upload “cometchat” folder to your “webroot” directory using FTP client. The “webroot” directory is usually ‘public_html’ or ‘www’.
